Bin days in Largs
Which colour goes out this week — the same answer for the whole town.
This week
Your collection day depends on your street — somewhere between Monday and Friday. The colour does not: every household in Largs puts out the same coloured bin in the same week.
The next three weeks
- Blue week of 17 August brown: 3B streets
- Purple week of 24 August brown: 3A streets
- Grey week of 31 August brown: 3B streets
The brown bin, and which calendar you are on
Largs is covered by two of the council's collection calendars, 3A and 3B. For the grey, blue and purple bins the two are identical — the same colour in the same week, every week of the year. The only difference between them is the brown bin, which is fortnightly and falls a week apart: when 3A puts brown out, 3B does not, and the week after they swap.
So there is one thing worth checking once. Look your address up on the council's checker, see which week your brown bin falls in, and match it against the panel above — that tells you whether you are 3A or 3B, and it stays the same from then on. Brown often lands on a different day from your coloured bin: a Monday street might have brown on the Wednesday, a Friday street on the Tuesday.
Brown also stops entirely over the festive fortnight, in different weeks for each calendar, while the coloured bins keep running. The council announce those dates each December.

Bins, litter and recycling at North Ayrshire Council →How this page works
The rotation was checked against eight addresses across Largs, one on every collection weekday from Routenburn Road to Bowen Craig, and then against a full year of the council's own printed calendars 3A and 3B. Their coloured weeks are identical throughout — no week of the year carries two coloured bins, and the sequence runs unbroken through the festive weeks, when only the days move. This page counts the weeks forward from that verified point. It is not a live feed from the council, so around Christmas and New Year treat the council's own page as the answer. Last checked Sunday 9 August 2026.
